No Personal Space
Most folks have or know someone who owns a phone, computer, home device, etc. Technology has taken over our world, and it’s hard to image a life without it. Technology has surrounded my own life and has improved it in many aspects. On the other had, it has also left me uneasy. Every word I speak or thought I make feels supervised by my daily technology. For Christmas I received an Alexa home device that would help me with daily tasks like creating a shopping list, checking the weather, and even adding things to my calendar. The Amazon Alexa home device is like a personal assistant, but unlike a person it is always listening. When I wake up, when I go to bed, when I believe it’s off. My paranoid feelings drove me to do research, and I found that even our handheld devices hold the power of listening.
Have you ever noticed how you talk about wanting a scarf, and all of a sudden there are advertisements on your social media about scarfs. Ever since I learned this fun fact, I like to say random things into my phone to see if I will get ads about it.
I personally don’t mind the listening, but I can understand that everyone has different lengths of privacy. Share your thoughts on how you feel about technology always listening, and what things they might hear.
